Treat them like Humans

A few days ago, our family went to a lake. Not just any nice and decent lake, a very huge one in fact, I would call it a dump actually, yes, a dump. It was shocking that this so called “lake” is actually a source for about 100 people in that area, they wash their clothes over there, they clean themselves over there, they pee over there and they poo over there. It’s sick, the smell is sick, the people are sick! These people are poor, they’re old and hungry, they’d eat and wear whatever is available! Some of them doesn’t even have anything to wear, they just sit there naked without any protection, I was shocked that this kind of situation still exists in this country. The whole world knows that Indonesia is a third world country, but I never thought that it could be this bad.

You might be wondering “Then why the heck did you guys go there!?” The answer’s short and clear, for charity. We wanted to give them proper clothing for them to wear and food. We also provided ice cream because it’s always really hot over there! They were really happy, they grabbed the free ice cream as if it was money, and they hide some in their pockets too, we don’t really mind because that’s actually a pretty good idea, unless it melts of course.

After I’ve seen their situation, I would know by now that they don’t have clean water, but I was shocked when I saw a mother giving her own baby dirty water, the water was green and gross and that freaked me out! I mean, was it even sterilized properly!? Apparently those people didn’t really care, as long as they can live with that. The most sad thing about living there is the fact that they have to run away and hide every time the police comes, I just don’t get why the government just can’t let them live there and give them what they need or something! Why would they chase them away!? Let them live! If they don’t want them to live there, then give them a proper shelter!

Trying to describe their situation in a blog post isn’t very convincing, I know. If you were there looking at it yourself, you will be shocked with the way they live, people don’t even treat them like a normal human being, it really hurts, and it opened my eyes. If there was anything I could do to help them I would, and I did, and I will continue doing it, even though I cannot give them a proper shelter, at least they can eat and drink properly once in a while. They’re humans and they deserve to be treated like one…
